STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathmatics. There are four main categories that I incorporate into my STEM work. These include built in meaningful MAKER time with manipulatives. These are opportunities for students to build and being creative using common materials on a set task. Also our stem experiences include linking culturally diverse books with STEM content to quick thinking constraint challenges. The third category includes real world like engineering design challenges that include multiple opporutunites with creating and recreating. The final component that I incorporating STEM curriculum is coding experiences, from unplugged coding to build basics skills in algorithms to writing code with age appropriate apps. STEM experiments are cooperative experiences shared with partner groups or small groups to create meanignful experiences with struggle and willingness to keep trying creative ways to solve problems.
