A Brief Introduction
This fall (2007) E. Hts. is working towards a more collaborative model of support for students with special needs within this building.  With the support of St. Paul Public Schools, we will be working with coaches in order to receive additional training (as a school) which will allow us to progress our current collaborative efforts.  The model will be implemented along a continuum of service, in that the needs of each student will be addressed individually.  It is exciting to be on the forefront of this district initiative.  Look for future updates in this area!!!!!

Currently at Eastern Heights Elementary, our special education department is staffed in four main areas: EBD (Emotional/Behavioral Disorders), SLD (Specific Learning Disabilities), DCD (Developmental Cognitive Delay), and Ed. SLP (Educational Speech and Language Pathologists).  In addition to these staff,   we have 5 Teaching Assistants programmed throughout the building where students needs garner additional support.

Along with the four main areas, we have itinerant staff who come to the building as needed in order to address additional needs of students. These staff work in the areas of OT (Occupational Therapy), PT (Physical Therapy), Adapted Physical Education Classes (DAPE), and Vision and Hearing Impairments. The amount to which they are in the building, depends on the needs of the students served at Eastern Heights.
