Luther College
  • My name is Andy Mork, and I am the Visual Arts teacher at Bruce Vento Elementary. I attended high school at Irondale High School in New Brighton. Upon completion, I attended and graduated from Luther College. I have also attended University of MN-Duluth, St. Mary's University, and Hamline University for master's and doctoral classes. I have a certification in environmental education, MA in education, and an EdD in educational leadership. I have taught 4th and 3rd grade, elementary and middle school art, and served as an instructional coach and technology integrationist. I am passionate about students developing critical thinking, higher level thinking skills, and a desire to continue learning through the arts. My favorite art activity currently is creating new architectural models in Legos with my three children at home.

I am a lifelong learner, and enjoy learning new things. My favorite activity is spending time with my family: we enjoy cooking and eating, deck duty, water sports, hiking, laughing, playing music, games and puzzles, and watching movies. I really enjoy playing basketball and movie trivia. I love movies, including the process of how they get made, and am fascinated by all the work it takes before a movie can be watched.

I enjoy incorporating concepts from movie making, architecture, and design into art education as much as possible. Some of my favorite artists and designers are Vincent VanGogh, Martin Scorcese, Steven Spielberg, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Frank Gehry. Although I graduated from Luther College with my art and education majors, our classroom university is MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I chose this because of its focus on innovation, creativity, racial diversity, and sense of humor.

Students in Bruce Vento's Art Room explore visual arts as communication. They engage in various two- and three-dimensional art making projects and explore art history and cultures from all over the world. They learn to use the elements and principles of art to enhance the artwork's ability to communicate.
