Reader's Workshop: In Reader's Workshop, we start our day with a whole group mini-lesson. Student then work independently with a just right book or in a small group with their teacher. Finally, at the end we come back together for a reflection and share!
Writer's Workshop: Third grade students will evolve into using and writing in a notebook. Students are learning about the writing process of brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
Everyday Math: Students learn a variety of mathematical concepts and procedures. A big element is problem solving using materials such as manipulative and team work. The four strands of math that we will focus on include: Numbers and Operations, Data Analysis and Probability, Geometry and Measurement, and Algebra
Specialist: In third grade we experience time with all four specialist teachers at least once a week. These specialist include Spanish, Physical Education, and Art.
Common 3rd Grade Homework Beliefs:
Generally, students are encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes each night. In addition, students will have homework assigned from school Monday through Thursday, typically a piece of reading and math homework.
