    Dear Jie Ming Families,
Happy March! We had a great African American Parents Involvement Day! Thank you
all for joining us. It was very inspiring to hear Hamline University’s president, Dr. Miller,
share her personal experience as a young learner. She said always take any
opportunities the school offers. That is how she has gotten so far in her life. AM
Horizon’s CEO, Mr. Andre Koen, also spoke to our parents. He shared about diversity,
building authentic relationships and serving others. We were very fortunate to have
    them on that day.
Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 and Thursday, March 23 from
4:00pm to 7:00pm, and Friday, March 24 from 8:00am to 2:00pm. Please make sure to
attend your child's conference and ask the teachers how you can help support your
child at home. If you cannot make it, please call your child's teacher and have a phone
conference. Our goal is for 100% of the families to attend the conferences. Your interest
in your child's learning will have a positive effect on his/her learning.
This year, we are participating in the yumPower Challenge. It is from February 21st to
March 10th. The purpose of this is to promote healthy eating. Students will track the
fruits and veggies they eat each day for these three weeks. HealthPartners will collect
the trackers and Hamline will receive a cash prize based on the percentage of trackers
returned. We have been using the cash prize to buy recess equipment for our classes in
    the past.
Please join me to congratulate our LEGO Huskies! They competed with 60 teams who
advanced (from 630 teams) to the State LEGO Tournament last Saturday, Feb 25th,
held at Washington Technology Magnet. Our team did very well, bringing home a
JUDGES AWARD in recognition for our Bunny Reading Program (Research Project).
Please continue to buy your student the red or navy blue sweaters or sweatshirts since
our classrooms are not warm. Everyday throughout the year, there are some students
who do not wear the Jie Ming uniform. If you need help, please let me know. Otherwise
we expect students wear Jie Ming uniforms. The Jie Ming PTA spirit wear t-shirt is only
for Fridays. Please do not wear it on regular days.
We are going to make March 23rd, April 20 and May 18 as our China Partner School
Friendship Evenings. These three nights are Jie Ming PTA meeting nights. You can
bring your child to school at 6pm. We will start to face time with
    our partner school students.

Monday, 3/6: 6pm, Jie Ming/Highland Park Middle School Meeting at Jie Ming

    In Partnership,
    Bobbie Johnson
