Kathy Drinkwine, Licensed School Counselor

Hi,  my name is Ms. Drinkwine and I am the K-6 school counselor here at Eastern Heights Elementary.  I'm honored to be part of St. Paul Public Schools and a member of this wonderful learning community!  I started in education as a classroom teacher  in 1993 and began counseling in 2000.   It is my responsibility to act as student advocate--making sure that students' voices are heard and understood.    My goal is to help students recognize and achieve their highest potential in and out of the classroom.

What is a school counselor?
My job at Eastern Heights Elementary School as a licensed School Counselor is to support student learning. In order to do so I provide counseling in three main areas:
Personal/Social
Academic
Career

I deliver these services in five ways:
Classroom Guidance Lessons--teaching lessons in every classroom on topics like developing social skills, study skills, and career aspirations and transitions.

Small Group Counseling
--weekly meetings with small groups of students who are experiencing similar challenges.

Individual Planning--working with students, staff members and parents to help students achieve their highest potential.

Responsive Services--responding to students' immediate needs through one-on-one counseling and small groups.

System Support--managing a counseling program and maintaining my qualifications and professional relationships.
