 | | | | | SCIENCE LAB Kindergarten: (PHYSICAL SCIENCE) Students become familiar with different kinds and forms of wood found in their homes and school environments. They compare five uniform samples of different kinds of wood, learn their names, and observe how they are alike and how they are different. Students observe how wood and water interact with each other. They observe how wood can change shape and how shape determines how the wood can be used. Students will also simulate making particle board using sawdust and a cornstarch matrix. They will also make plywood from thin strips of wood and glue.
1st and 2nd Grade: (LIFE SCIENCE) The Insect Module provides experiences that heighten students’ awareness of the diversity of animal forms. They come to know firsthand the life sequences of a number of insects. In each investigation an insect is introduced, and students observe structures and behaviors, discuss their findings, and ask questions. Students observe life cycles of insects and compare the stages of metamorphosis exhibited by each species.
