My belief and love for learning has given me the opportunity to teach science at Eastern Heights! I welcome the privilege to work with all first grade through fifth graders twice in a 6 day rotation. I believe that this great schedule allows me to bond with students and guide them through a love for learning!
I received my undergraduate bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities in Elementary Education in 2007. I have taught 1st grade for 3 years at a local charter school and have taught grades 4 and 5 in the EMID district. In December of 2011, I completed my Masters of Education at the University of Minnesota.
In the summer of 2013 and 2014 I have been a fellow participant on the University of Minnesota's EngrTeams at the STEM Center. This opportunity has allowed me to gain strength in teaching Engineering as well as design curriculum to teach my students about real problems they work to solve during their Engineering units in the classroom. During the summer of 2015, I took a different course at the U that is designed around student inquiry with plants. I am eager to share my learnings with students and challenge their engagement with inquiry lessons not only on plants but in all science criteria.
In my free time, I love to read anything Harry Potter, travel, and visit family in Wisconsin. My husband, Brian, and I love taking our dog, Pumbaa, to go ice fishing, camping, and hiking. I traveled to Australia in June of 2015, which is where the featured picture is from.
