 | | | | | | Mission/Philosophy & Goals | | MISSION: To ensure that all students at Eastern Heights are motivated, interested, and encouraged to work at a level which will challenge them through the use of creativity, thinking skills, authentic learning experiences, and the enhancement of multiple talents and intelligence.
PHILOSOPHY: The philosophy of the enrichment program at Eastern Heights is based upon Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligence and Dr. Joseph Renzulli's Schoolwide Enrichment Model. This model offers exposure to a variety of new experiences for all students as well as training in the affective and cognitive domains. The methodology of meeting the needs of children demonstrating gifted behaviors includes teaching advanced process skills and allowing for advanced levels of investigation. Children are encouraged to be "practicing professionals."
GOALS: To develop the talents of young people by assessing strengths, providing enrichment opportunities, and using a flexible approach to curricular choices and school time.
To improve the academic performance of all students in all areas of the regular curriculum and to blend in activities that will engage students in meaningful and enjoyable learning.
To promote a learning community that honors ethnic, gender and cultural diversity, mutual respect and caring attitudes toward one another.
