This school year (2008-2009) room 109 has 23 students. Eastern Heights follows the Responsive Classroom philosophy, and we begin our day at 9:10 with a Morning Meeting. This is a time for students to greet each other and be greeted, share happenings in our lives and play a quick game before we get busy learning. The rest of our schedule is as follows:
9:30-10:30 Writer's Workshop
10:30-11:05 Science/Social Studies
11:05-11:30 recess and wash up for lunch
11:30-12:00 Lunch
12:00 Everyday Math
12:56 Specialists: Phy.Ed., Integrated Art, Computer, Science
1:40-2:40 Reader's Workshop
2:40-3:10 Learning Centers and Free Choice
3:10 Snack
3:35 Dismissal
It's been a cold month! Perfect for studying Arctic Animals like
penguins and polar bears. We had a guest speaker on January 19 tell of
her experiences in the Arctic studying polar bears and their shrinking
environment. We are working on writing our own non-fiction books-this
class is a curious bunch! We enjoy doing research and looking at books
to find facts about our topic.
